The marketing workforce represents approximately 2.4% of UK employment, which equates to nearly 700,000 workers. This includes marketing directors and managers, advertising and PR professionals, graphic designers, conference and exhibition organisers, and market research interviewers.
The sector is vitally important to both the public and private sectors, as it creates value by stimulating, facilitating and fulfilling customer demand.
Skills & Competencies for Marketing NOS
Three suites of Marketing NOS (National Occupational Standards) are available. These are listed below.
Marketing
These standards cover the full range of functions carried out by marketing professionals. They are aimed at those employed directly by an organisation or who work for an agency or consultancy in areas such as marketing management, market research, advertising, and public relations.
Digital Marketing
These standards cover the full range of functions carried out by digital marketing professionals. They are aimed at individuals either employed directly by an organisation or who work for an agency in areas such as digital marketing executive, digital marketing management, and PPC.
Digital Marketing Occupational Map
Social Marketing
These standards cover the full range of functions carried out by social marketing professionals. They are aimed at individuals either employed directly by an organisation or who work for an agency in areas such as social media manager, social marketing executive, and social marketing manager.

Marketing Qualifications
A range of both vocational and academic marketing qualifications are available within the UK and internationally. We have developed a number of specific Marketing vocational qualifications including NVQs at levels 2 and 3.
